Monica's Wilderness Heals Hike Adventure

I have chosen to participate in the Wilderness Heals Hike supporting the Elizabeth Stone House and wish to update everyone on my progress up until the hike and thereafter. Every June/July more than 70 women will hike for 3 days in the White Mountains of New Hampshire to help other women in need. All of us will challenge ourselves and most will go higher and farther than we ever dreamed we could. Join me on the challenges and adventures leading up to my first hike...

Training Hike #1: Mt Monadnock

On June 3rd, Abby, Becky, Lucy, Gina, Laura and I set out to hike Mt. Monadnock via the Marlboro Trail, which was a 5 miles moderate trek for all of us.

Team leaders, Abby and Becky, did a fine job guiding us up the trail to a cold, cloudy and misty summit though the hike itself was a great workout for us. We started out on a smooth and comfortable hike, but that did not last long. We were soon on a steep rocky climb slowing us down some. And then all of a sudden we were hit with some very cold wind, which continued until the summit. The entire hike took 5 hours. It was not easy and my legs could vouch for that as they were sore for a few days after the hike. Nevertheless, I admit that it was a great start to my hiking season.
